There’s something about the holidays that brings people together and reminds us of the importance of generosity and care for one another.

This holiday season, our team at Nichols Farms participated in the Adopt-A-Family initiative through Kings Community Action Organization (KCAO), helping to support 19 local families with 277 gifts. This year, many of the families were asking for necessities, such as warm winter clothes for their children, household supplies, and basic toys. These requests reminded us that for many families in our community, the holidays aren’t just about celebration, but about meeting fundamental needs.

Our employees worked to fulfill these wish lists, selecting items, wrapping presents, and sorting donations in the hope that these essentials could bring some relief and joy during the season.

One parent shared with KCAO: “You have no idea how much this means to me. I had to choose paying my rent over buying gifts for my children, and your generosity lifted an enormous burden from my heart.”

Another family member wrote: “I truly did not have the means to make Christmas happen this year, and because of your kindness, my children will be able to experience the joy of Christmas.”

These words remind us why partnerships like this matter. KCAO, established in 1965, is a nonprofit organization dedicated to empowering low-income individuals and families throughout Kings County. Through programs that address poverty, hunger, housing insecurity, and access to essential resources, KCAO plays a critical role in helping families work toward stability and self-sufficiency.

The needs we saw this year are a reminder of the challenges many families face, and the importance of organizations like KCAO in supporting our neighbors year-round.
